It’s no secret that the side plates of the John Deere 47” snow blowers are flimsy and lack sufficient support at the lower outer edges. Depending on the year of your blower, the stock thickness can range from as thin as 1/8” (0.125 inches) to 13/64” (0.203125 inches). This area, unfortunately, faces the most abuse and leverage while blowing snow. It is the first part of the blower to contact concrete curbs, landscaping blocks, and timbers.  When the side plate becomes bent, it can significantly increase wear on the auger, auger bearings, and gear cases. To address this, these reinforced side plates add 0.23 inches (nearly 1/4”) of additional steel to enhance protection against hidden objects and impacts.  For systems with an original thickness of 1/8” (0.125 inches), the added plate increases the total thickness to 0.355 inches, resulting in a 184% increase in thickness. For systems with an original thickness of 13/64” (0.203125 inches), the added plate increases the total thickness to 0.433125 inches, resulting in a 113% increase in thickness.  These plates also serve as an ideal solution for straightening a bent or damaged blower with distorted side plates. The kit includes both the left and right side plates, along with all necessary hardware for proper installation.  Mounting is simple: align the plate using the 8 existing holes and provided hardware, then drill several additional holes that are not found in the blower. The side plate serves as an easy template, ensuring accurate hole placement. All hardware needed for installation is included, accommodating most setups.
